Hanshi Gary Gascoyne

I became interested at the age of 10 by read ing the fundamentals of ju-jitsu and applying the technigues on my siblings, in the stxties, karate schools were not available as they are today.
One needed to travel to a big city, Brockton or Boston being the closests and coming from a family of 9 with one vehicle, that was not financially possible.

ju-jitsu was a section in the library (no karate section as yet) which had become my dojo.
1976:
Graduated high school and enlisted in the Air Force a few months later, became a Security Specialist earning a Presidential recognition for exceptional duty, I was trained in hand-to-hand combat skills and various weapons during that time. I also trained in the art of boxing, to add to my martial combative skills.
1981:
I continued my studies in martial arts trying several styles over many years, Taekwondo, Uechiryu, etc. I realized choosing a discipline was like choosing the right suit it needs to choose you.

1995:
I was introduced to U.S.A. Goju by my then instructor Sensei Walter Parks and mentored by GM Peter G. Urban, reaching the rank of 7th Dan until their passing.
1996:
I took over for my Sensei who had health issues at the Manomet karate school and eventually rebranded to the White Horse Urban Gojudo Karate School, which is still operating today. My students had taken many awards in years of tournament play.
2000:
Awarded GM Urban’s coveted “E” flag of excellence, and had the privilege of working with Maestro Urban on his last body of work the Karate Dojo 2 talking book.
2006:
I returned to Government duty with the D.O.D. as a Transportation Security Officer at Logan Interntional airport. Served eight more years and retired in 2014.
2019:
Promoted to 9th dan by Grand Master Sekwii Sha of the Shanando system. Ombudsman of U.S.A. Goju. Maestro Urban also gave him authority to promote within the Urban system.
